I agree with Rita: I think entrepreneurs are more likely to experience burnout because it takes blood, sweat and tears to make a business successful. For many entrepreneurs I talk to and for myself, the first couple years were the hardest and I was definitely approaching burn out. I needed time away to refocus and take care of myself so that I wouldn't have a breakdown.

I'm about to join the business world and I'm so excited but after dark the worries set in. I have been looking at this and investigating, researching for several years. I am a teacher on a leave of absence to take care of ill mother but do not want to go back to teaching (yes, I was awarded "star teacher" and loved actually teaching the children, but that doesn't seem to be what the job "teacher" entails anymore), and instead want to embark on a great risk, but at the same time if people didn't take risks they may always wonder "what if." One queston I would like to ask other bloggers is about health insurance. Any great deals out there (haha!) for health insurance now that I will not be insured? I realize a steady, secure job with insurance is hard to leave, but as I have said, I've made up my mind to venture forth on my own. Thanks!

Great post! There's a lot there I agree with, even #14. You won't get burned out as easily- you're probably doing something you love.

I don't agree with #14 - less chance of burnout. Because you are working way more hours with your own business, I think there is greater burnout. Since so many businesses fail within five years of startup, many people end up going back to getting jobs at established businesses. There is much security in having a job, less responsibility, and benefits. These are often overlooked by entrepreneurs.
