Working on Christmas Eve?

If you’re like me, you are most likely working today on Christmas Eve. And you may even be sneaking to your workspace to put in a few hours tomorrow too. Tisk, tisk.

I used to do just that. I would work on all the major holidays, weekends, and late-late nights. This year, as my resolution, which I am starting a few days early, I am going to be working less. My plan is to get more done by spending less time doing work. I know that sounds backwards but it is remarkable how it works.

This reverse logic works like this. When you spend time away from your work, you are forced to focus more when you are doing work and then you become more productive, getting the same amount or more work done in less time.

I know it sounds like a crock but it does work for a lot of people. Limiting the time you work makes you focus more on what you really need to accomplish. Also, having that time away from work allows you to clear your mind, and get back on track. It is remarkable how easy it is to work too much and get total mind clutter. Without this clutter you will be more productive.

So this Christmas as a present to my readers I am giving you a suggestion. Don’t work today. Don’t work tomorrow either. Spend the time with your family and friends. Enjoy life away from the business grind. Eat more than you should, open presents, give presents, enjoy the people around you.

Believe me, when you get back to work on Wednesday, you will feel rejuvenated and ready to do great things.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
