With 2008 approaching fast there is so much to do. Planning your next year can be a daunting task but Goal Focus is the most vital part of creating a successful new year.
I have put together some goals that I see as important to any entrepreneur. Try to focus on these while planning. They are golden in making a good plan of action for the new year.
Higher Income. This always should be a goal for a business. Money is not the most important part of an enterprise (or at least it shouldn’t be) but higher income has many personal and professional benefits and allows business to grow faster.
Better Products / Services. Everything you offer to customers should aim to have the highest value possible. In the new year, make your products and services the best they can be. This above all else will bring in new customers.
Better Customer Service. A growing trend in business is a better customer focus. I love this. To me, a happy customer is the best thing a business can produce. In 2008 go for customer service gold. It will allow you to retain new customers and keep the ones you have coming back for more.
Less Time Working. Spending less time at work does not mean less gets done. You can set working limits on yourself and still get more work done with focus. More on this here.
More Marketing Effort. A problem with a lot of Entrepreneurs is that they do not realize how important marketing is to a business. For the next year, take whatever time you already market and double your efforts. This means more time invested and more diverse ways to market.
More Fulfillment. As an entrepreneur you should get a sense of fulfillment out of what you do. It is the reason you are taking so much risk in the first place. Aim to get more fulfillment out of what you do every day in 2008. It could mean working less, creating more meaning for your business, focusing more on the core aspect of your enterprise, or just simply reorganizing company structure so you can do what is most important to you.

Ask for more referrals. As a business owner in the service industry it’s always good to ask for referrals. Of course if a client is extremely satisfied with your services, I’m sure they will tell others, but it always helps to remind them to spread the word.
Bartering - absolutely. That also comes from effective networking. The more people you know (through online forums and groups, for example) the more opportunities you have to barter for services.
I can’t tell you how much money this has saved me - bartering for graphic design, technical computer help, advertising, and expert advice. Extend your reach outside of your comfort zone and meet new people!
Barering also spills over into “spend less time working.” Bartering and outsourcing gets your project done faster by someone who has better skills to do it, and you can concentrate on what you do best.
