The Past couple of weeks for me have been very hectic. Not only am I aclamating to writing daily on a new blog but I have gained new clients and am of course still doing work for my current ones. On top of all of it… School Finals! Incase you didn’t know, I attend night classes when I am not working. It’s a hectic life but I love it.
In having this style of life I find it very necessary to unwind to maintain my sanity and be ready for the days to follow (which will most likely be hectic too). Here are some tips of ways to Release I either use myself or trust to be effective for many.
1. Exercise. I know, I know. When you have just worked all day the last thing you feel like doing is exercising. But the reality is that you most likely have been sitting in front of a computer screen or in meetings all day. This wares you down tremendously and exersizing can reverse these effects and give you the boost you need. I recommend a good run, but other exersizes may work better for you.
2. Hitting Some Balls. Going to a local driving range and giving some golf balls a good whack can really help. The movement and focus your body and mind get really help ease the tension that builds up during the day.
3. Make Art. Many of us have a skill like painting or drawing. Even if your not good at Art, letting your hands be free and create something without the pressure of perfection can loosen up your arms and your mind powerfully.
4. Cook. Now this one is not for everyone. If your like me, cooking will do more harm than good (mentally and physically, ouch). But many people I know can use cooking as a release because it causes you to focus on something very specific without having to rush. Kudos to whoever this helps.
5. Dine out. If cooking isn’t in the stars for you, and I completely understand that, you can enjoy a meal out on the town. Sometimes treating yourself for all your hard work can motivate you to get right back on the horse the next day.
6. Volunteer. Again, this seems like something you wouldn’t want to do after a long day of work but I have found volunteering can really get your mind off of things and allow you to end your day with a feeling of fulfillment.
7. Go Driving. When your on your way home, normally you are faced with the same crunch as everyone else, that stigma is… Everyone Else! The roads are jam packed and it makes you want to trade in your car for a scooter and work a block away from home! Ah, sorry, I digress.
But driving when there is not as many cars, or no cars like at one in the morning is a serene experience; just you and the road. When you do not have to concern yourself with thousands of vehicles around you, it gives you the opportunity to really take in your surroundings and contemplate the universe (or what you want for dinner, See 5 and 6).
8. Punch Someone. Now, I know that sounds harsh and I am not recommending you go litterally sock someone in the face. What I recommend is some friendly boxing with someone you are close with and is close your size and weight. It is a great stress relever and can help both people involved.
Note: Always wear gloves and protective gear when doing this. Otherwise you will be wishing you got the better health care plan.
9. Read Something. More specifically, read something that has nothing to do with your job. This could be a murder mystery novel (I recommend the Alex Cross Series by James Patterson), a magazine, or even the funnies from the newspaper. The point is to divert your mind from the day so you can settle down.
10. Quality Time. This to me is the most important. Though you likely spend your day talking to people, associates, clients, freelancers, employees, you are missing out on the intimacy of personal connection. When you finally get your work done, spend some quality time with your family or close friends. To me these groups are one in the same.
My favorite way to unwind is playing with my sister. She is seven (we are many years apart) and always loves to spend time with me. Spending time with her makes all the clutter in my head go right out the window.
What do you do to release after a long work period?

nice list..though I would also add Gaming. It sure is a good form of relaxation. (atleast it helps me).
You’re funny. The line about the “better health care plan” cracked me up.
“This wares you down tremendously and exersizing can reverse these effects and give you the boost you need. I recommend a good run, but other exersizes may work better for you.”
You might consider having another person proof-read you writing prior to posting. It would help with your credibility.

And I’ll take my own advice as well
Spelling and overall clarity of expression are annoyingly bad.
And Driving makes your list? Joke, right?
Some good ways to destress, with the exception of hitting someone..a little “drastic”, don’t you agree?
Otherwise, good effort, here.
